Premiere: ‘Fong’ from Tresor’s enigmatic new signing Datashader | Juno Daily
‘Digital Entropy is a new six-track EP on Tresor, but it’s far from ‘just another new release’.
For a starter, the act behind it, Datashader, is anonymous and faceless. Yes, they’ve supplied us with a press shot (above), but ithe rather shifty looking character in it is an AI-generated image rather than a real person.
Then there’s the music. Across the EP there are raging breakbeats, swirling rave ‘Mentasm’s, off kilter beats, depth charge bass booms and radioactive electro flourishes. The only vaguely familiar territory is a Dopplereffekt remix of ‘Breath Controller’, and that’s way out of the leftfield too.
The release, apprently, explores the concept of “technological gentrification”, which describes the gradual displacement of human interaction by technology. If this is what the future sounds like, all we can say is that it’ll be as weird as it is wonderful.
