24 For 2024 Tips: 9/24 – FURTHER | Juno Daily

Down to the Bone

The sudden closure of DJ Bone’ s 25-year-old Subject Detroit label, to be replaced by a new label, FURTHER, remains somewhat of a mystery at present.

We’re not going to pretend that the video of dancing santas wishing the FURTHER family a merry Christmas left us any the wiser, either.  But it did make us laugh.

What is abundantly clear, however, is that FURTHER will be a key label to watch for techno fans in 2024. For starters, the label’s first two releases are set to drop in vinyl form on the same day – February 12 – and they’re both corkers.

The debut release is from Yeti Mind Tricks‘We Ain’t Like Them’ features three originals by the Glasgow-based producer and a remix of the title track by DJ Bone.

The second is a new four-track solo outing called ‘The Portal’ EP from the now Amsterdam-based techno innovator himself. According to our reviewer: “‘My Replicant Self’ has synths slashing across the face of a sleek techno rhythm with sombre chords draped over the top. ‘The Divine Call’ ups the ante with spoken word menace and ‘My Tribe’ then layers up percussion and surging synth warmth. ‘Remembering The Future’ is a brilliantly quick and urgent track with slapping hits and bouncing drum funk.”

In a statement, DJ Bone said: “I decided to kick off my new label, FURTHER, with a release from Yeti Mind Tricks titled ‘We Ain’t Like Them’, due to those words uttered throughout the track. Yeti sent it to me as a demo and after playing it out a few times I knew that this was more than a track: it was a raw and to-the-point description of myself and the entire FURTHER crew.

“The second release will be from yours truly. ‘The Portal’ EP steps into new territory for me, and marks the exciting launch of this endeavour of pushing things further than I ever have before.”
