24 Tips For 2024: 22/24 – the return of The Woodentops | Juno Daily
First album for ten years could drop this year
It’s not like The Woodentops have gone anywhere – the band toured their classic 80s albums Giant and Wooden Foot Cops On The Highway in recent years – but the arrival of a new track, complete with a fantastic spaceman-lost-in-Greenwich promo, has got the Tops’ audience whispering and wishing feverishly that a new album might be about to drop.
Rolo McGinty has helped to fan the flames too. Posting about the band’s imminent, latest tour, he too hinted new material was indeed in the pipeline and would be being roadtested on the dates.
“Next week we are out a bit, I shall be DJing new Woodentops associated music between bands on all dates. New tracks remixes & rarities. The old cliche, tickets are selling fast applies. Support in London is Micko and the Mellotronics. We will be playing a few from Giant and Wooden Foot Cops and earlier ones we have not played in a very long time. However we do have some new beasts to unleash!”
The band play:
Night And Day Cafe Manchester 21st Feb
Old Woollen, Leeds 22nd Feb
The Forum Tunbridge Wells 28th Feb
Nells London 29th Feb
What’s more, since their interview with Juno Daily last year, there’s been an outbreak of media interest in the band, including a recent lengthy re-appraisal of Giant in Classic Pop magazine. So it looks like, a decade on from their last album Granular Tales, 2024 might just see album number four in a 30 year career this year. A rare treat, to say the least.
