Premiere – Robert Hood and Femi Kuti join forces to pay tribute to James Brown | Juno Daily

Preview the pair’s jam for French television here

Robert Hood’s techno and Femi Kuti’s Afrobeat combine forces on a new album which captures the pair in one-off live action together.

The pair collaborated for the fourth season of La Compagnie des Indes & Sourdoreille’s ‘Variations’ series for France TV, choosing to pay tribute to Godfather of Soul and all round funk royalty James Brown, who passed away in 2006.

Variations the album, released by Hood’s M-Plant label, is the live recording of this unique collaboration and performance, recorded in one take. We’re premiering the sixth of the seven segments, a particularly funky section of the session, with Brown’s voice featuring in typically percussive fashion.

“It is so amazing when a vision comes to fruition,” Robert Hood commented, “I enjoyed collaborating with the legendary Femi Kuti for this special project.”
