Groveport Madison district servers hacked by ransomware group

Groveport Madison Schools experienced a security breach on Tuesday that affected the use of the internet and certain devices in their buildings.

BlackSuit, a ransomware group, was able to hack into two district servers, impacting Windows devices, file services and printer/copiers. Phones were not impacted.

The district made a post stating that an internal, preliminary assessment found “no student or staff data has been compromised during this breach.”

Representatives with the Department of Homeland Security CISA advised Groveport Madison Schools to shut down all internet access while the breach is being fixed. This means that the internet will be down Wednesday within the district.

We will still have school, and we want to make all families aware that phones will be working, and our attendance will be taken manually,” said the district in an email to parents.

The district also stated that they “take the security of your information seriously, and we are implementing additional measures to strengthen our systems.”
